Regional Results

Abby and Elizabeth qualified to Region 2 Championships and travelled to Kalispell, Mt. for the event.

Friday Abby competed in the Level 8 All Star Team Challenge where the top 8 All-Around gymnasts from each state compete for team honors. Abby had a great meet and even scored a perfect 10.0 on floor! They use college rules and go easy on the judging, but who cares! It was a 10! Team Idaho place 2nd overall. On Saturday, Elizabeth competed and had personal best performances on floor and bars. She's come a long way since her broken foot in October. We are proud of you Elizabeth!

Abby competed again on Sunday for individual honors. She too had personal bests and even though she had to compete without floor music (sticky note ruined the CD) she placed 3rd All-Around with a score of 38.05. Great job Abby!

It's all about the memories...

So the team split for the weekend with the Compulsories and Level 7 gymnast Casey heading to Desert Gymnastics in Pasco and the Level 8's heading to Portland for the Rose City Challenge.

Coaches Elise and Kristy did a great job flying solo. I was judging the Desert Meet. It was difficult just sitting behind the table, not able to coach the girls, but I have also enjoyed getting back into judging scene.

Needless to say there were quite a few calls between the coaches giving updates as to how each group was doing. One call however, was not exactly what I expected. As you can see from the picture below, the crew heading to Portland ran out of gas! And yes, Mark was driving! He and Sarah had to run 2+ miles back to the gas station leaving Elizabeth, Abby and Jackie stranded on the side of the Interstate. They then hitched a ride from the gas station attendant on the way back. Something about the van only having 2 seats, a trip to the dump earlier in the day and walnuts flying on the dashboard is as much as I was able to understand between the laughter and the cell phone cutting out. It all turned out fine with the girls arriving to the meet site with 15 minutes to spare. Forget the competition and the scores, now that's a meet to remember!

Empire Cheer Squad Debut

Our adorably cute Empire Cheer Squad made their debut performance at a Moscow High School Basketball game. They performed their competition routine and then cheered side by side with the Varsity Cheerleaders.

The next day the Empire Cheer Squad participated in the Moscow Cheer Extravaganza. Another great performance opportunity in front of all the Moscow Cheerleaders (grades 7-12 and their friends and family). Their routine is getting better every time. We are looking forward to seeing them in a competition in February.

Check out their videos on our You Tube Channel: palouseempire

The 10 girls are lead by Coach Caren. Great job everyone!

Rebuilding the floor - Many Thanks!

Although we were 3 weeks past our original date, the floor was completed in record time on January 19th. Many thanks go out to those that donated time and funds to this project. A few extra special Thank You's go out to Bruce Yoshikawa for letting us store the wood in his shop for 3 extra weeks, to Nicole Whitehead for organizing the Buy a Board Fundraiser and to the WSU/UI Gymnastics club and the U of I Pole vaulting team for helping with the labor. There were over 20 broken boards. Mark is shown holding one of the worst. Over 30 volunteers that came out on Saturday evening to help. In 4 hours the old springs were off, and 2/3 of the new floor was assembled. Check out the junk that Victoria had the pleasure of cleaning up. That's where all the pens went! On Sunday a work crew of ten completed the floor in another 4 hours work. It doesn't look all that different, but now the floor will last for years to come. Look at the beautiful Baltic Birch!

THANKS EVERYONE WE COULDN'T HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT YOU!

Happy New Year!

Welcome to PEG's new blog. We hope to have weekly updates on events happening at the gym and on the road. PEG started the new year on a grand note. On January 3rd the Girls and TNT Team performed at the WSU vs. UW Men's Basketball Game. The gymnasts did great and they had a wonderful time! WSU cheerleader and former PEG gymnast, AJ Morgan joined in our mini tramp skit. We told her that Jasper was going to front flip over her but instead he psyched her out back flipped off the mini tramp instead. Then Shannon and Abby did a Huskies vs. Cougars skit. Shannon put on a UW shirt and got a few boos from the crowd. She ran across the airfloor and stumbled. Lots of laughs from the crowd. She did a round-off back drop to finish it off her clumsy husky interpretation. Abby then played to the crowd with her cougar shirt on and performed a sky high double-back. We hope to make this an annual event. Many thanks to the parent and coaches for helping transport the mats. We couldn't have done it with out you!
